dio has rocked for a long, long time,
now it's time for him to pass the torch.
he has songs of wildebeests and angels,
he has soared on the wings of a demon.
it's time to pass the torch,
you're too old to rock, no more rockin' for you.
we're takin' you to a home,
but we will sing a song about you.
and we will make sure that you're very well taken care of.
you'll tell us secrets that you've learned.
your sauce will mix with ours,
and we'll make a good goulash baby.
dio, time to go!
you must give your cape and scepter to me.
and a smaller one for kg.
go! go! dio! dio!

Scientists engage in conspiracies, politicians, liberals, conservatives, etc., etc., etc.
It's good to be skeptical, and frankly, I don't like ANYONE with a "cause" (because they usu have their fist out, and they have blinders on) on either side of an issue. But, it seems very few people today really use the old noggin to evaluate data, inputs from "experts", etc., etc., in an objective fashion...much more likely to jump the gun and get on a band wagon that fits their world view.

Now, where it gets squishy, is, what to do about it? IE, whatever your take on it, can we change it, etc. This is where the naysayers have a pt--it is much harder to PREDICT what will happen with temps than to tell us what DID happen. This doesn't mean we can't look at the current graph and conclude "Holy Shit! the trend is UP!?" as a third grader can do that...but can we say "eliminate all plastic and it will have effect X!"? NO.

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with penguin jokes:
A penguin was driving down the road one night, when the "Check Engine" light came on. He pulled over at the gas station, and the attendant said he'd take a look at it, and tell him what was wrong.
The penguin went over to a nearby shop and bought a vanilla ice cream. He finished the ice cream, threw the wrapper away, and walked back to the gas station, where the attendant was waiting for him.
"It looks like you blew a seal," said the attendant.
"Oh, no. It's just vanilla ice cream," replied the penguin.

Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh...
Rennenhenninnahenninnenninahennn
Way over on the wet side
Of the bed (knirps for moisture)
Just like the mighty penguin
Flappin' her eight ounce wings
Lord, you know it's all over
If she comes atcha on the strut & wrap `em
All around yer head
Flappin her eight ounce wings, flappinumm
She's just like a penguin in bondage, boy
Shake up the pale-dry
Ginger ale
Tremblin' like a penguin
When the battery fail
Lord, you must be havin' her jumpin' through
A hoopa real fire
With some kleenex wrapped around a
Coat-hang wire
She's just like a penguin in bondage, boy
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh...
Rennenhenninnahenninneninahenn
Howlin' over to some
Antarcticulated moon
In the frostbite nite
With her flaps gone white
Shriekin' as she spot the hoop across the room
Lord, you know it must be a penguin bound down
When you hear that terrible screamin' and
There ain't no other
Birds around
She's just like a penguin in bondage, boy
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh...
She's just like a penguin in bondage, boy
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh...
Rennenhenninnahenninneninahennn
Aw, you must be careful
Not to leave her straps
Too loose
`cause she just might box yer dog
She just might box yer doggie
An' leave you a dried-up dog biscuit.

There is Truth, there is conjecture, there are Educated Guesses, there are Uneducated Guesses, there are lies told for gain or profit, for the forwarding of a cause or for self-aggrandizement, and there is just flat-out bullshit.
To each of us is given the responsibility to seek the Truth as faithfully and with as much integrity as possible, to do our best to intervene or not when we have the power to make a positive change, and to try to pass on Truth and Love as a gift for those who are yet to come.
Easy to say, difficult to do, but, then, why else would we be here?

yea, it's been quite a topic allright, i still don't see the big deal in cutting Co2 emissions by 10%, overall it might do us a bit of good, as MandoJammer points out we are likely to be forced into cutting back our dependence on fossil fuels and consumerism habits soon anyways, but most people ain't gonna wanna change until they start to smell their own back-bacon burning
on a positive note, the crowd my son and daughter hang with do not appear to be any where near as materialistic as us older generations have been...and of course, i'm enjoying El Nino and the Global Warming Trend (sounds like a good name for a band, eh?) immensely, spent the afternoon outside in a t-shirt, a privilege even in July
thanks William for your thoughts and input on all this

Over 100 years ago, people worldwide began burning more coal and oil for homes, factories, and transportation. Burning these fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These added greenhouses gases have caused Earth to warm more quickly than it has in the past. How much warming has happened? Scientists from around the world with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) tell us that during the past 100 years, the world's surface air temperature increased an average of 0.6° Celsius (1.1°F). This may not sound like very much change, but even one degree can affect the Earth. Below are some effects of climate change that we see happening now.
- Sea level is rising. During the 20th century, sea level rose about 15 cm (6 inches) due to melting glacier ice and expansion of warmer seawater. Models predict that sea level may rise as much as 59 cm (23 inches) during the 21st Century, threatening coastal communities, wetlands, and coral reefs.
- Arctic sea ice is melting. The summer thickness of sea ice is about half of what it was in 1950. Melting ice may lead to changes in ocean circulation. Plus melting sea ice is speeding up warming in the Arctic.
- Glaciers and permafrost are melting. Over the past 100 years, mountain glaciers in all areas of the world have decreased in size and so has the amount of permafrost in the Arctic. Greenland's ice sheet is melting faster too.
- Sea-surface temperatures are warming. Warmer waters in the shallow oceans have contributed to the death of about a quarter of the world's coral reefs in the last few decades. Many of the coral animals died after weakened by bleaching, a process tied to warmed waters.
- Heavier rainfall cause flooding in many regions. Warmer temperatures have led to more intense rainfall events in some areas. This can cause flooding.
- Extreme drought is increasing. Higher temperatures cause a higher rate of evaporation and more drought in some areas of the world.
- Ecosystems are changing. As temperatures warm, species may either move to a cooler habitat or die. Species that are particularly vulnerable include endangered species, coral reefs, and polar animals. Warming has also caused changes in the timing of spring events and the length of the growing season.
- Hurricanes have changed in frequency and strength. There is evidence that the number of intense hurricanes has increased in the Atlantic since 1970. Scientists continue to study whether climate is the cause.
- More frequent heat waves. It is likely that heat waves have become more common in more areas of the world.
- Warmer temperatures affect human health. There have been more deaths due to heat waves and more allergy attacks as the pollen season grows longer. There have also been some changes in the ranges of animals that carry disease like mosquitoes.
- Seawater is becoming more acidic. Carbon dioxide dissolving into the oceans, is making seawater more acidic. There could be impacts on coral reefs and other marine life.
